My Ecoboost is Tuned. What’s next?
So, you’ve gotten your Ecoboost tuned.
Nice! 😎
If you're one of our customers, you just unlocked 100+ HP with a 93 PR-X Tune. More power, better shifting, enhanced throttle response... It’s like a brand-new truck.
For some, that’s enough.
But not for you.
You want more.
With all the info out there, it’s tough to separate the good from the gimmicks. Everyone has an opinion, throwing brand names and part recommendations at you, claiming you’ll gain more power, a better driving experience, or solve some hidden issue.
We’re here to cut through the noise and show you what actually works.
🛠️ First Things First: The Essentials
Assuming your truck is 100% stock except for your MPT Custom Tune, these are the first upgrades we recommend:
📌 Lower Temperature Thermostat
-
Helps prevent heat soak, a major power killer.
-
Keeps engine temps in check, especially if you tow.
-
A 170° thermostat from Reische is an easy, effective upgrade.
📌 Aftermarket Intercooler & Piping
-
Cooler air = more power.
-
Reduces heat soak and helps maintain consistent performance.
-
Brands like Wagner, CV Fabrication, and COBB offer excellent options.
📌 Catch Can / Oil Separator
-
Prevents carbon buildup by trapping blow-by gases before they gum up your intake valves.
-
Doesn’t add HP, but helps maintain performance and engine health.
-
UPR and J&L make top-tier options.
📌 Better Spark Plugs
-
A simple but crucial upgrade, especially for turbocharged engines.
-
Ensures strong, reliable ignition and prevents misfires.
-
NGK plugs are our go-to choice.
📌 Exhaust Upgrades (Axle-Back, Cat-Back, Downpipe)
-
A downpipe can unlock more power, especially when paired with upgraded turbos.
-
High-flow or stock cats only—no cats = no MPT tuning.
-
Sound is subjective—check out exhaust sound clips before you buy.
-
Top brands: Kooks, Gibson, and MBRP
📌 Cold Air Intake
-
More airflow, better filtration, potential for slightly improved MPG.
-
Injen, aFe, and S&B make solid choices.
💪 Stepping Up the Power Game
With the essentials out of the way, let’s talk serious power mods. These upgrades require custom tuning with datalogging—don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with instructions and support.
⚡ Water-Methanol Injection
-
Increases octane, cools intake air, and cleans engine internals.
-
Requires monitoring fluid levels but is cheaper than a full fuel system upgrade.
-
AEM’s kit has delivered outstanding results for years.
⚡ Aftermarket / Upgraded Turbos
-
Bigger turbos = more boost, more power.
-
Costly, but effective with minimal maintenance.
-
Garrett and CR Performance are industry leaders.
⚡ Fuel System Upgrades for E85
-
E85 = serious power gains if your vehicle supports it.
-
Required upgrades vary by model (injectors, high-pressure fuel pump, etc.).
-
Just remember: E85 means lower MPG, but much higher HP potential.
👇 TL:DR - What's best?
-
Daily Driver? Stick with the essentials: catch can, intercooler, thermostat, spark plugs.
-
Want more power? Start looking at E85, aftermarket turbos, or water-meth.
-
Track-focused build? Consider all of the above plus a built engine, traction bars, and a torque converter.
🏁 Final Thoughts
You don’t need any of these mods to enjoy your Ecoboost with our tuning. MPT tunes are safe to run on a 100% stock vehicle.
That said, we highly recommend a catch can, lower temp thermostat, and intercooler to keep your ride running strong, no matter what goals you have.
